Lengths are the full chain measured end to end, clasp included. Layered and multi-strand pieces quote the longest strand.
Measuring for a bangle
A bangle has to pass the widest part of the hand, so measure the hand, not the wrist.
- Bring your thumb across to touch the base of the little finger, as if slipping a bangle on.
- Wrap a thread or tape around the widest part of that closed hand.
- Mark the overlap and measure the thread in cm. That is your hand circumference.
- Match it to the last column of the chart, or divide it by 3.14 for the diameter.
Choosing a length
Chains and necklaces are about where the piece falls, so measure against yourself rather than a size.
- Take a thread or soft tape and hold it around your neck where you want the piece to sit.
- Mark the point where the two ends meet and measure the thread in cm.
- Add 2 to 3 cm if you want it to fall a little lower, or if it will sit over a blouse.
- Match that figure against the table above.
Measure at the end of the day, when fingers are at their largest, and never straight after cold weather or exercise. Take the measurement twice.
